When a car belonging to a known crime associate is pulled from the sea in Northern Ireland, Detective Tom Brannick finds an ominous postcard that connects to a shadowy case from the past: an assassin nicknamed Goliath. Tom and his colleague DS Niamh McGovern investigate, but the community's distrust of the police hinders their progress.

Tom reels from the discovery of three bodies buried 20 years ago-one of which may be his wife. Tom and Niamh interview Pat Keenan, the man who was kidnapped, but he won't say who abducted him. Later, Tom confronts Adam Corry, who was hunting Goliath.

With the origins of the gold confirmed, an American gangster named Ryan Savage arrives in Dunfolan to take back what belongs to his family. As Tom and Olivia close in on the gold, Niamh and Birdy inch closer to the truth. Izzy pressures Birdy to break the news of their relationship to Tom, but then her new boyfriend makes a shocking discovery.

The police investigation threatens to collide with Tom's illicit pursuit of Olivia, the murder weapon, and the gold. Tom must move the pieces into place so he can come out on top. Under immense pressure, he choreographs a final reckoning that will endanger those closest to him and force him to reveal the dark truth of who he really is.

The search for Olivia's driver, Robert Dardis, takes Tom and Niamh to an abandoned house. Tom takes advantage of the unfolding situation to deceive his colleagues, but a heated confrontation leads to a fatal mistake. Tom's relationship with Olivia deepens, as each recognizes the value the other has in their search for the gold.
