Description
Gradie Huston was a loner, not part of anything but aware of everything that went on around him. After the cattle drive that brought him up to Abilene, Gradie told his boss that he wouldn't be going back to Texas. What he didn't say was that Abilene was his home -- the place he'd run away from when he was fourteen to escape a brutal father and the mean-minded townspeople who thought the Hustons were ragpicking trash. But Gradie couldn't have picked a worse time for a homecoming. Shortly after his arrival, his father and older brother were caught rustling cattle and were lynched by Brad Cummings and four of his men. Gradie's younger brother was shot and killed when he tried to stop them. Cummings' fierce hatred of the Hustons extended right on down to Gradie, who was the last of the Hustons, so Cummings decided to frame Gradie for a crime. When a murder is committed, Gradie finds the whole town lined up against him. All he has on his side are one deputy sheriff, Cummings' daughter Letty, and a mangy mutt named Dog. And it certainly doesn't seem like they'll be much help when an angry mob decides that justice shouldn't have to wait for a circuit judge when all it takes is a piece of rope around Gradie Huston's neck...
