Description
Jeff Foxworthy has turned out to be a refreshing change from the standup comedy norm, keeping the four-letter words to a minimum and the comedy fairly gentle. This release, which coincided with the launch of The Jeff Foxworthy Show, is worth hearing just for Foxworthy's routine on the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, although there's a lot more besides, including a song in collaboration with Little Texas.

Hokum was a style showing a completely different side to the blues that was upbeat, salacious, and lighthearted. With its use of clever and suggestive innuendo, this risqué style was extremely popular in the late 1920s and early 1930s, and its influence has remained part of the blues ever since.

Tom and Dick Smothers hit show-biz pay dirt by exploring the lighter side of brotherly competition in their musical comedy act. Combining substantial folk-singing skills with barbed comic repartee, the Smothers Brothers endeared themselves to "hip" crowds and mainstream audiences alike. That feat was a considerable accomplishment in the '60s, when the recordings that comprise this generous sampler were made.

Few comedians can mine the mundane for absurdity quite like Flight of the Conchords. With a lucid vision of hyper-literate zoo animals, David Bowie tributes and genre exercises that span R&B, electroclash and dad-rock, Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie have built a cult following that hasn't really waned during the pair's periodic long absences. After Flight of the Conchords' HBO show went off the air in 2009, the two devoted their spirit and wit...
